Reduced fee couples therapy from licensed therapists

We are conducting a clinical trial for couples who are experiencing problems in their relationship and are committed to trying to improve their relationship in couples therapy. Couples will receive discounted therapy from licensed professionals in exchange for answering questions about their experiences.

Couples will attend therapy sessions at locations convenient to them in therapist offices in Northern Virginia, DC, or Maryland.

Involvement in the Study

Couples will participate in 15 sessions of couples therapy with a licensed therapist at a discounted rate. Couples will be asked to complete surveys about their symptoms and experiences at intake, mid-treatment, termination, and at two follow up appointments. The research intake and follow up meetings will be held at Virginia Tech’s Northern Virginia Campus in Falls Church.

Eligibility for Participation

Interested couples will be screened to ensure that they are an appropriate fit for the study and for couples therapy. To be eligible to participate in the study, couples must be married or living together for at least one year, not currently receiving couples or individual psychotherapy, not experiencing substance related problems, and not experiencing ongoing domestic violence. Potential clients can call the Virginia Tech Center for Family Services to complete a phone screening to see if they qualify. We provide referrals for couples who are not eligible for the study.
